Dark Side Tips: How to Use Maybelline Color Tattoos

Greetings from the Dark Side!

I can't tell you guys just how much I have been loving the Maybelline Color Tattoo eyeshadows! I think they are such phenomenal eyeshadows. They are by far the best cream shadows I have ever used. They get even better because they are easily available to me for a very great price ($5-$6). After showing you the four new Maybelline Color Tattoos that are a part of the Fall 2012 Collection I received some questions about the Color Tattoos so I decided to make a quick post on them. Today I want to show you how you can maximize the use of your Color Tattoos (or any other cream eyeshadow). They are not only great as eyeshadow bases for powder eyeshadows, but they also make amazing eyeliners and they work great on their own!

1. Eyeshadow Bases
Here is an example of using the Color Tattoos as eyeshadow bases. For this look, I used 'Fierce & Tangy' as a base for my orange eyehshadows. This made the eyeshadows stay in place all day as well as helped to make the eyeshadows more vibrant.

2. Eyeliners
Color Tattoos can also be pigmented enough to serve as gel/cream liners. There is not need to use powder shadows over then because they stay in place all day. I personally love to do this to achieve a bright liner! For this look, I used one of the newer Maybelline Color Tattoos in 'Fuchsia Fever' and used it to line my upper and lower lash lines.

3. Eyeshadows
Although these are easier to use as cream bases, they work equally well alone. The best thing is that these do not crease so there is no need to top them off with powder eyeshadows. Here is a three step tutorial of how to apply these and to show you how they would look on their own. I used 'Barely Beige', 'Gold Shimmer', and 'Rich Mahogany'.
I will be using these three steps in a future tutorial, so not only can you use this look on its own, but you can also use it as a base for other colors.

Barely Beige all over.

Gold Shimmer on the lid.

Rich Mahogany on the outer V and lower lash line.
If you use the Color Tattoo's like this, they will look really great and they won't crease. You can use any colors you want together. The colors I used are very neutral and great for an everyday look~!

Hope this was helpful to all of you who are struggling with using these products or to those of you who are hesitant to try these out. Be creative and don't be afraid to experiment with your makeup!

Thank you for reading ♥
See you next time! ;)

  1. Looking at your post just makes me wish that they'd be available in Malaysia, and SOON! >__< I like the idea of using them as eyeliners, there are so many different colours to choose from (from what i've seen from US reviews) :D

  2. love how you use it as a liner! I don't get it, though- when I used my color tattoo the other day it started creasing/clumping in seconds, even though I gave it ample time to dry. I had to use powder shadow over it to get it to stay :(( How do you get yours to now crease?

    1. Is it a new one or is it older? I know it's time to replace mine when they start to get clumpy, also a couple of the colors are streak some and crease easier like the purple or limited dark blue

    2. Agreed. Some of the colors are just not that great (the bright blue and the purple one). But you also have to make sure that you are not applying them incorrectly and thus making them crease and flake. Maybe play around with them some more and see if you can make them work for you :)

  3. Super helpful! I have 3 Color Tattoos, & love them!

  4. I love Maybelline Color Tattoos too! Super versatile, my absolute fav is Tough as Taupe!
